The Boob and the Babe

The boob and the babe.

The lump and the bump.

These are the two ways that I've been jokingly referring to my state of affairs.  Well, until Anders vetoed 'the lump and the bump' that is.  And so the saga was named:  The Boob and the Babe.

The hardest part of our journey so far was at the beginning.  We didn't know what my treatment would be and if we'd be able to keep the baby.  Of course, being the sensitive person that I am, when the doctor informed us that chemo is possible as of the 14th week of pregnancy, my response was to ask if I'd also be able to drink wine and eat sushi then.  Yeah, no.

About the boob - In the scheme of the things, the surgery wasn't so bad, nor the days following it, so I was surprised when a week after my surgery I started having significant pain.  I have been taking 2 Panodil every 6 hours (yep, almost an entire package of paracetamol everyday) for the last 4 days and the pain has been manageable.  By American standards, Panodil is like candy.  It's such a low dose over-the-counter painkiller but by Danish standards I'm keeping the pharmacy in business.  I'm hopeful that things have improved yet hesitant to stop taking the pain killers.  We'll see what the doctor says tomorrow!

About the babe - Over Easter weekend we were with my Danish family and shared the news of our pregnancy with Anders' aunts and uncles, cousins and grandparents.  Over Easter lunch, Anders toasted that he wanted to brighten the recent dark news with a little light.  To be exact, a little candle about 3cm long in my stomach.  Everyone was so excited to imagine a little one as part of the family for Christmas.  It was lovely to receive all of their excitement and happiness.  As it should be.  I was disappointed not to share the news with my American family face-to-face as well.  Sharing good news is such a fun thing to do.  It feels full and precious and lovely and worth cherishing.  Why not marinate in? :)
